1. Cardozo School of Law, New York

The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law is the Law School of Yeshiva University, located in the New York City borough of Manhattan. The school is named after Supreme Court Justice Benjamin N. Cardozo.

Cardozo's success as a young school has been remarkable. Among the top 100 law schools, only two schools are younger than Cardozo, which graduated first class in 1979. While Cardozo is noted for its strength in numerous areas of study, its Intellectual Property and Dispute Resolution programs are particularly well-reputed and consistently ranked within the top ten in the country by U.S. news.

As you explore Cardozo, you will see that there are certain qualities that set it apart from other law schools. It offers a rigorous and exciting curriculum, a vast array of clinical opportunities, and an accessible faculty of engaged, interdisciplinary men and women who love to teach. In addition, Cardozo is known for its energy and flexibility.

Students choose Cardozo because it is dynamic and they can learn in an atmosphere that welcomes input and collaboration between students, faculty and alumni.

Its rankings include: 3rd best law school in the US for Law and Literature, 4th in the US for Critical Theories and 2nd Most Cited Arts & Entertainment Law Journal (1st in Scholarly Impact and Cities by Courts).

2. Hostra School of Law, New York

The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University is located in Hempstead, New York. Founded in 1970 and accredited by the American Bar Association in 1971, the school offers a Juris Doctorate (law degree) and various LLM degrees in International Law, American Law and Family Law. The school was named one of the country's best public interest law schools by prelaw magazine, a national publication aimed at prospective law students.

US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg praises CUNY as " an institution of incomparable value". Charles J Ogletree, Jr Professor at Harvard Law School, also praises CUNY: " with all due respect to my legal institution and others, in my view CUNY Law School is the premier legal institution in the country and the world for training lawyers who are committed and dedicated to the public interest".

The school has also been recognized by National Jurist/PreLaw Magazine as one of the top 10 public interest law schools and by the Princeton Review for having the best professors, one of the most diverse law faculties in the nation, the most welcoming campus in the nation for older students and the most liberal student body. ALONGSIDE YOUR SUBSTANTIVE LEGAL STUDIES IN THE US....

Each law school will have a different program and date of the session. They all promise to be truly exceptional experiences and certainly not to be missed. The dates will avoid graduation dates (in middle July), internships of the major law firms and exam dates (i.e. early June).

The full details of the program will be available shortly - however it is envisaged at this stage that Cardozo law school will focus on trial advocacy (perfect for those students looking to the bar), City University New York will have a Human Rights focus (Gun laws, death penalty statues etc) and Hofstra will have a more commercial focus.

All the sessions will have tourist opportunities and other group activities such as trips to sporting events, restaurants and culture venues - there will be the obligatory trip to the Statute of Liberty, baseball games etc.

The course and the accommodation will be included in the price, however it will be your responsibility to obtain flights. There will be around 40 students on each of the academic holidays and the majority will be in the 18 - 23 age group, although there may be Masters, PhD students. You will be provided with a certification of accreditation at the end which you can add to your CV and of course refer to in interviews with law firms.

VISA applications

Web Legal Education will assist in the application procedure at the American Embassy in London. It takes around 3 hours to obtain a VISA from the embassy. Essentially, you need to prove 3 things when applying for a charity work VISA:

  • That you have money to support yourself whilst staying in the US;
  • That you have an incentive to stay in the UK and won't stay over;
  • That you are not a danger to the US.
